Inspired to develop, lead and disciple at CMLeaders Conference

CM Leaders

This past weekend I was privileged to attend the CMLeader’s Conference in Columbus, OH. This conference was sponsored by INCM, International Children’s Minister Network. The theme was develop, lead and disciple.

What a treat it was to get to meet face-to-face all my children’s minster friends. Many of us know each other from FaceBook and Twitter but we have never actually met. We know all about each other’s ministries and families. Ah yes, the world of social media works well for kidmin kind of people.

The first day I walk into the auditorium and saw who I thought was Wayne Stocks, Divorceministry4kids.com. Wayne and I have been working together for almost two years but we had never met. Our entire goal has been to educate children’s ministers about the child of divorce.

As I sat down, I recognized Bonnie Deroski. We chatted often in the CMConnect chat room this past summer on the Tuesday chats. I met Amy Dolan, Brad Tate, Patsy Palmer, the D6 people and the list goes on.

Met some new kidmin people. Reconnected with some old friends like Ryan Frank, Michael Chanley and Ron Brooks. Kidmin people are passionate about their ministries. It shines through when you get a bunch of them in the same room.

I’ve been ministering to children of divorce for many years. When we first released DC4K, DivorceCare for Kids, few kidmin people knew anything at all about the child of divorce.

When I would say something about the child of divorce in back in 2004 people would look at me with a blank stare and say something like, “Huh? Who? What kind of kids?”

The kidmin world is changing and people are becoming more aware. In the middle of Ryan Frank’s talk he said, “I think one of the hardest jobs in the world is to be a single mom raising a son.” Yes! Single parents raising kids is being mentioned in talks now.

Others talked about the kids from single parent homes. We learned in other countries that many more children live with only one parent or no living relative.

Here are some tweets that went out during and after the conference. Tweets just about say it all.
